How to Easily Link PAN with Aadhaar and Avoid Penalties

If you haven’t linked your PAN card with Aadhaar yet, it’s crucial to take action promptly. The deadline for linking the two documents is June 30, 2023, with a penalty of Rs 1000. Failure to comply may result in a hefty fine of up to Rs 10,000. The Income Tax Department emphasizes that failing to link PAN with Aadhaar renders your PAN card invalid and unusable. Rule 114AAA of the Income Tax Rules stipulates that an inoperative PAN prevents individuals from furnishing their PAN, seeking information, or obtaining a new PAN card.

To ensure your PAN remains active and usable, follow these steps:

Step 1: Check if your PAN and Aadhaar are linked:

Visit the official Income Tax Department website at www.incometax.gov.in. Locate the “Link Aadhaar Status” option and click on it. A new window will open where you can select “View Link Aadhaar Status.” If your Aadhaar and PAN are linked, you will receive a confirmation message. If not, you can proceed with the linking process.

Step 2: Link Aadhaar with PAN:

Access the income tax website mentioned above and click on “Link Aadhaar.” Log in using your credentials. Enter your PAN and Aadhaar numbers and validate them. A message will prompt you to pay a fee of Rs 1000. Click on “Continue to pay through E-Tax.” Re-enter your PAN number and confirm it in the designated box. Provide your mobile number and continue. Enter the OTP received on your mobile. Now you have three options to pay the fee: select “Income Tax” as the first option. Choose the assessment year as 2023-24. Proceed to the “Type of Payment Major Head” section and select “Other Receipt 500.” Click on “Continue.”

You will see a fee of Rs 1000 displayed in the “Other” section. Click “Continue” and choose your preferred payment method, such as net banking, debit card, RTGS, or payment gateway. Follow the instructions to make the payment.

After successful payment, you will receive a confirmation message on the screen, and you can download the payment slip if desired. Return to the “Link Aadhaar” section, validate the PAN and Aadhaar numbers, and the fee message will be updated. Click “Continue” and provide the requested information. Finally, click “Link Aadhaar,” and your PAN will be successfully linked to Aadhaar.

By following these simple steps, you can ensure the linking of your PAN card with Aadhaar, avoiding penalties and maintaining the validity and operability of your PAN card. Take action before the deadline to comply with the regulatory requirements seamlessly.
